You have decided you and your partner need to work together to improve the lack of sex in your lives. You want to try things just by yourself but have run out of ideas. Depending on the problem, you can work as a team or just support each other to improve your sexual relationship. Many types of dysfunction that can benefit from practicing homework; these include orgasm dysfunctions and arousal, motivation and desire. Some ‘assignments’ will work for both genders while others will be gender oriented based on the problem being tackled.
Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder
A disorder that mainly seems to afflict women, this can cause stress in any relationship. There are homework assignments that attempt to rectify this non-medically. Lack of fantasies is one of the symptoms of this condition. Reading or writing sexy stories can help get some thoughts and fantasies flowing, as can watching sexy movies. How hard-core these stories or movies need to be will depend on the woman and couple’s feelings.
Arousal Disorders
When a lack of physical response is there during a desire for sex, it can make it uncomfortable or even painful to engage in sexual activity for women or impossible for men. There are various activities to try to improve this situation. A field trip may be in order. Here is where role-playing comes in. Perhaps you would like to role-play a bar pick up or act out a fantasy. If you have read or written stories or watched exotic movies, acting out what you enjoyed can help produce the hormones necessary for feeling good. Drink lots of water to ensure a lack of lubrication is not caused by simple dehydration.
Orgasm Dysfunction
For cases of orgasm dysfunction, premature ejaculation for men or lack of orgasm in women, there are various assignments. To assist men in longer duration, the exercise is simply to delay the orgasm for longer periods. This can be by way of stopping during intercourse just before ejaculation becomes imminent. It can be practiced during foreplay especially as repeated attempts can be accomplished more readily. This process can also be practiced during times of self-stimulation.
For women, orgasm disorder is generally defined as never having had an orgasm. There are several ways to achieve orgasm in women. This is dependent on what is stimulated, where and for how long. These factors can vary from woman to woman and from session to session. A misunderstanding that abounds is that women can achieve orgasm during intercourse. This is most often not the case. Intercourse can add to the sensations of an orgasm already progressing though, for most, cannot be the sole stimulating factor.
If after trying these homework assignments without remarked improvement after some length of time, there may be a psychological or physiologic condition waiting to be uncovered. A trip to the doctor for further evaluation and testing may be in order. If you should decide to schedule an appointment, bring a record of what has been tried so your doctor will know where to begin with testing.
