You have read all the articles about alternative treatments and home remedies. You may have looked at all the porn your eyes can handle looking for something to create that spark that has been missing. Moreover, it all seems for naught, because you still do not feel like having sex. As a final resort, you decide to look into what your doctor might suggest. This article is for you.

There are a couple of options available to those wishing to discuss low libido with their health care providers. Examples of providers whom you may discuss the possible conditions with include your family or general care practitioner, relationship or sex therapists, and gender specific care providers; gynecologists or midwives for women and genitourologists for men.

Medications
The first care provider you are likely to see is your family or general care doctor. Ideally, you will receive a full checkup including blood tests. After a review of any medications you are regularly taking, alternatives may be prescribed if this seems to be the cause. If there are not alternatives available, new medications may be added to help increase your desire or performance.

Many glandular organs can and should be checked to see if any levels are lacking. Reproductive hormones including testosterone for both men and women will be considered. Adrenal, Pituitary, and Thyroid glands should also be included in the examination. If any of these become malfunctioning to a lesser extent, the sufferer can experience other affect beside low libido. These include lack of energy, depression, high blood pressure, and weakness. Excluding any abnormal growths or other malformations, many of the above can be treated by replacing the hormone the glands are no longer producing efficiently.

Therapy
If all systems are go, there may be psychological blocks inhibiting the desire for sex. If this is the case, you will likely be referred to a psychologist for assessment. This could be the average psychologist or one trained to specifically handle sexual dysfunctions. It would be possible to see an everyday psychologist then referred for treatment that is more specialized when your issues have come to the forefront.

After a thorough history has been taken, you will spend some time talking about what has been going on. Topics may include work, family, romantic relationship, and traumas. Once a cause has been identified, and this is not to say there will only be one, the therapist will discuss options to help you overcome your particular issues. The treatments will be for you to do by yourself and others will be exercises for you and your lover.

After some time allowing the treatments prescribed to be practiced, the therapist will reevaluate your conditions(s). Perhaps more exercises will be in order. If the ‘homework’ given is too embarrassing or uncomfortable for you in the beginning, there may be medications prescribed to help you over the hump.

Do not give up hope. There is a light at the end of the tunnel for people struggling with sexual dysfunction. It takes patience and persistence for the treatments to work.
